Tamil actor Ajith Kumar’s latest action thriller, Vidaamuyarchi, made a solid entry at the Tamil Nadu box office, drawing significant audience turnout despite its weekday release. The film, directed by Magizh Thirumeni, debuted to mixed reviews but maintained strong occupancy levels.
Reports indicate that Vidaamuyarchi recorded an overall occupancy rate of 58.81 per cent during morning shows and 60.27 per cent in afternoon screenings, according to Sacnilk. Unlike most major Tamil star films, the movie did not feature early morning special screenings.
Chennai emerged as the strongest market for the film, with an impressive 90.50 per cent occupancy across 1,075 shows, reaffirming Ajith’s enduring popularity in the state capital. Other key cities also saw strong turnout:
Coimbatore – 81.50 per cent occupancy (368 shows)
Madurai – 62 per cent occupancy (230 shows)
Salem – 80.50 per cent occupancy (119 shows)
Vellore – 84.50 per cent occupancy (69 shows)
Trichy – 94 per cent occupancy (83 shows)
Performance in Other Regions
In Bengaluru, the film was screened in 1,014 shows, with a morning and afternoon show occupancy rate of 30 per cent. Meanwhile, Kerala saw lower attendance, with Kochi and Trivandrum reporting 20.50 per cent and 19.50 per cent occupancy, respectively.
Ticket pre-sales contributed significantly to the film’s earnings, with 7,15,631 tickets sold across India, generating Rs 19.28 crore in advance bookings. By midday on its opening day, Vidaamuyarchi had grossed close to Rs 10 crore, setting the stage for a strong first weekend.
The Telugu-dubbed version, titled Pattudala, also witnessed a moderate response in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Morning shows recorded an occupancy rate of 12.43 per cent, which saw a slight rise to 13.55 per cent by the afternoon. However, the film’s business could face competition with the release of Naga Chaitanya and Sai Pallavi’s Thandel, scheduled for the following day.
While Vidaamuyarchi enjoyed a strong opening, its reviews have been varied. Some viewers praised its storyline and plot twists, but others felt the second half lacked momentum. Ajith Kumar’s performance was noted for its subtlety, marking a departure from his usual mass-appeal roles.
Cinematography by Om Prakash and music composed by Anirudh Ravichander received appreciation, though some felt the soundtrack served its purpose rather than standing out.
